Angioplasty is Often Necessary for Atherosclerosis Reversal

Listed below are some of the treatments necessary for atherosclerosis reversal.

Coronary Angioplasty uses a catheter to create a larger opening in the clogged artery in order to increase blood flow. PTCA or Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty is a particular type of treatment concerned with the coronary arteries. Coronary arteries are of great importance since they feed oxygenated blood to the heart. If blood flow is substantially reduced the heart could be starved for oxygen leaving portions of it dead thereby leading to heart attack.

Balloon Angioplasty uses a small balloon instead of a catheter. The balloon is inflated inside the clogged artery in order to open the clogged area.

Laser Angioplasty, as its name implies, uses a laser to break up the arterial blockage.

Atherectomy involves shaving the blocked area inside the artery using a tiny device on the end of a catheter.

Coronary Artery Stent - a tiny coil is expanded inside the blocked artery to open the blocked area and is left in place to keep the artery open.

Such procedures are sometimes necessary if atherosclerosis is allowed to develop too far. It goes without saying that efforts toward prevention are much more pleasant.
